Honours wife’s battle with cancer and invites others to come for a spin with him.

June 23, 2009: When NASCAR Driver James Van Domselaar Jr. gets behind the wheel of his stock car he knows that he is putting his life on the line, but that doesn’t scare him as much as the thought of his wife Tamera putting her life on the line.

The summer of 2007 delivered good and bad news for the Van Domselaar family. The good news – the couple was expecting their second child. The bad news – Mom-to-be Tamera had Hodgkin’s disease, a blood cancer. Learning as much as they could about Tamera’s prognosis, the family made the decision to postpone treating the Hodgkin’s disease until after their baby was born. With fingers crossed, they watched and waited as their baby grew and the cancer seemingly didn’t progress.

“As a family, our life was turned upside down. We made a promise to each other that we would do something to help others diagnosed with Cancer”, said Van Domselaar Jr. “And since we made that decision, we’ve helped raise more than $25,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).”

For those stock car fans feeling the need for speed, Van Domselaar Jr. has installed a second seat in his stock car, for just a $250 donation to the LLSC he will take you for a spin in the stock car on July 17th, at Stratotech Park in Fort Saskatchewan.

“The NASCAR community has been really supportive of our family, everyone was thrilled to see Tamera back in the pit for the 2008 season,” shared Van Domselaar Jr..

The 2009 race season has a new goal – raising more funds for LLSC and providing an experience of a lifetime for one lucky NASCAR fan. Van Domselaar Motorsports is auctioning off the chance to rip around the track with Van Domselaar Jr. at the 2009 Rexall Edmonton Indy on Friday, July 24th. And the excitement doesn’t stop there -- included in the package are two (2) GOLD weekend passes to the Indy event. Interested bidders can go online to www.number14.ca and find out how they can get in on the action. The auction will open on July 1st and run for 10 days.

“Jamie’s managed to put three passions into one project, his love of his family, his love for racing and his determination to find cures for blood cancers”, said Tamera Van Domselaar, “I couldn’t be prouder.”
