Mission Statement:

VMS is committed to working with sponsors in order to operate a mutually beneficial, nationally recognized CASCAR motorsports team in a manner that consistently demonstrates and encourages good sportsmanship, cooperation, and team oriented values.

Profile:

Van Domselaar Motorsports is a family owned and operated CASCAR late model stock-car racing team based out of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada.

With much preparatory hard work and determination, the VMS team sprang onto the Edmonton, Alberta dirt oval racing scene in 1997, taking home third place honours at the end of the year. 1997 Also saw James Jr. as the Rookie of the Year at Capital Raceway in Edmonton.
Early in 1998, James graduated from the Finish Line racing School in Florida, U.S.A. Taking these newly honed asphalt driving skills back to the dirt oval, VMS proved that 1997 wasn't a 'fluke': 1998 saw the team accumulate more feature wins than any other team and achieve a second place overall finish(one point out of first place!). In late 1998, the decision was made to move up to national asphalt oval racing.
In 1999 the VMS team gained valuable experience, competing in four CASCAR Western Series events, and the Edmonton Airport national event. By competing in only 5 events, the team was able to retain their Rookie status for the subsequent year.

The year 2000 was one for gaining valuable "seat-time" and experience, and it set the stage for the 2001 season. During 2001, the team ran a limited series of five CASCAR Western Series Races and the #14 Team was a factor in each of those. 2001 brought the VMS team its first top-10 and top-5 qualifying efforts and feature finishes, as well as a ninth place overall finish in the CASCAR Western Series championship points competition.

Building on the successes of 2001, the year 2002 proved to be the team's best to date, with a top-5 and several top-10 feature finishes. The VMS team also consistently qualified in the top ten throughout the season, and by the end of the year had notched a sixth place overall standing, in a field of over 40 competitors. Driver James Jr. was also honored at the season's end banquet with the trophy for the CASCAR Western Series Sportsman-Of-The-Year award.

2003 was a breakthrough year for the VMS team! Members logged their first ever win in CASCAR competition at the ‘Fast-8’ heat race in Quesnel, BC. The team also added another five top-ten finishes to their collective credentials and finished the season in 9th position overall. James Jr. was once again honored with the CASCAR Western Series Sportsman-Of-The-Year Award, and the team won the Scorer’s Award as well.

If 2003 came with a breakthrough for the team, 2004 was a year-long breakout! The #14 car was a force to contend with at each and every race in 2004, and rose rapidly in the points standings despite DNFs in the first two races of the year. The #14 crew logged their first ever podium finish in 2004, taking second spot at the Canada Day Shootout in Vernon, BC., competing against NASCAR series driver Geoff Bodine. By mid-season the team sat in 3rd place overall, and would have kept that podium position in the standings if the #14 team hadn’t been crashed out during the season finale. Nonetheless, the “little team that could” still logged 5th place overall, its best result to date.

2005 was a year of challenges for the VMS team, as the high-performance demands placed on the #14 machine took their toll. But with the team’s family-oriented focus, support and encouragement from sponsors, and sheer determination, the VMS team still made several achievements, including capturing the pole position at the Penticton, BC event and achieving several top-ten and some top-5 feature finishes. By the end of the 2005 season, the team landed in 9th position overall despite running a limited season, and had proven itself to be a top-flight contender at each event.

Team plans for the 2006 CASCAR Western Super Series season are in development, as the team awaits further news of NASCAR Canada’s involvement in the CASCAR organization. Fans are invited to check the VMS News page for 2006 scheduling updates!
